Flooding after a storm can send a great deal of water into your home literally in minutes. Call SERVPRO for water removal services right away.

Removing and Cleaning Flood Damage in Knoxville Homes

Knoxville residents have much experience in riding out storms and preparing for floods when the Tennessee River swells out of its banks. Usually, the flooding covers the streets and parks, with only a few homes in low areas taking the worst of it. Now and then, a Fall storm can drop an incredible amount of water in just a few hours.

SERVPRO approaches Knoxville flood damage with an aggressive cleanup method. Our office is ready to respond 24/7 whenever a customer needs us, but we also can help every house, duplex, and apartment building owner prepare their property for the next major storm.

When it comes to clean up, our first task is to get any standing water out of the home. Once our restoration team arrives, they can begin work within minutes. The first device we use is a commercial grade water pump. Depending on the size of the home and the amount of water present, our technicians can remove it in one or two days.

Since this is outside floodwater, our restoration crew does have to take additional precautions, however. Floodwater contains soil and many other contaminants, so before starting with the water pump, they spray the surface of the water and nearby property with an anti-bacterial agent to reduce the risk to ourselves and the property owners.

After finishing with the pumps, SERVPRO team members remove and dispose of any carpets that were underwater. Since we cannot guarantee 100% that the carpet is safe after cleaning; we recommend replacement. After removing the carpets and carpet pads, technicians scrape away any debris and then spray the entire floor with an anti-bacterial cleaner. Our teams can then lay down and stretch a new carpet in place if the owner chooses us for that.

If there are wood floors, technicians use extraction wands to draw water from between floorboards and then clean them with another anti-bacterial agent. If the water covered the floor for too many hours, it might have softened the finish on the wood. If this happens, our teams can quickly remove the finish and begin drying the floorboards with air movers to force warm, dry air over the surface. That pushes out moisture into the air, where we can capture and remove it with a dehumidifier.

Our goal SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville is to return your home to you in a clean, dry, and safe condition. If you find that you need our services later this year, call us immediately at (865) 862-8907 to schedule a visit and get started. We are here for you.
