Although twenty years have passed since the horrific events of September 11, 2001, the nation’s awe of the selflessness demonstrated by the 343 NYFD firefighters who lost their lives saving others remains undiminished. Area residents can seize the opportunity to honor these heroes by joining the Knoxville 2021 National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Stair Climb Event.
Every September, firefighters, first responders, military personnel, ROTC Members, individuals, and groups across the country memorialize the ultimate sacrifice made by the 343 New York City Firefighters and Paramedics killed that day while rushing in to those two doomed World Trade Center Buildings as everyone else was rushing to get out. We remember the 23 NYPD Officers and 37 Port Authority Police Officers killed. We remember the 125 Civilians and Military Personnel killed at the Pentagon. And we remember the nearly 3,000 Civilians who perished in the towers and on those four airliners that day.
Nothing can bring the fallen firefighters back to their grieving families and communities. The Knoxville 911 NFFF Memorial Stair Climb will be a powerful and moving display of support and gratitude for the firefighters’ courageous efforts. On September 11th, the story of the terrorist attacks will once again be told, the 343 fallen firefighters will be remembered and the community will renew its commitment to “Never Forget”. The Knoxville Community will hear from the likes of Congressman Tim Burchett, Mayor Glenn Jacobs, Fire Chief Stan Sharp, UT President Randy Boyd and Lieutenant General Lawrence Nicholson, USMC.

First responder registration and donations can be accessed by going to https://nfff.akaraisin.com/ui/knoxville. Your donations and participation are truly appreciated. The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Knoxville Sunsphere.
