Three Essential Pieces of Equipment for our Knoxville Duct Cleaning Process

An in-depth look at three of SERVPRO's most effective duct cleaning methods for both the return and supply side of your Knoxville Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system.

Our duct cleaning process uses three essential pieces of equipment to clean both the return side and the supply side of your system. Timely duct cleaning can help the lifespan of your unit as well as having a positive impact on your indoor air quality (IAQ.) We use three devices to achieve this outcome: a negative air machine, a brush system, and a whip system.

When the filters on the return side of your HVAC get older, they begin to draw dust into your HVAC alongside air. Since these systems circulate throughout your home via ventilation shafts, we need an access point to clean throughout the narrow ducts. Many circulation channels are fabricated from galvanized steel or aluminum, although recent developments have seen flex duct and duct board come into common usage.

Using a circle hole cutter attachment on a drill SERVPRO can saw a wide enough opening to attach the intake of a negative air machine. Negative air machines create a force similar to an industrial vacuum but have High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters that remove debris from inside a contained system like an HVAC. Afterward, we use sheet metal to close the hole created to gain access.

The second piece of equipment is a brush system that we use to clean from the supply side of your HVAC. We remove the ventilation registers to gain access before feeding a brush system into the shaft. Brush systems rapidly rotate a circular brush and can loosen embedded grime, and soils from the interior walls of a ventilation shaft and then remove them via the negative air machine, our super duct-cleaning apparatus.

Finally, a whip system is used on the return side of your HVAC system. Whip systems run an electrical current through a series of whips providing a robust and agitative scrubbing effect inside challenging to reach areas. By running a whip system, SERVPRO can dislodge set grime which can be picked up by both the brush system and the negative air machine. At the end of service, we can replace all panels with new filters to ensure your HVAC remains clean.

The professional duct cleaning procedure is complicated and requires industrial grade equipment and certified technicians. Contact SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907 to arrange for an inspection, and service, if needed.
