Air Duct Cleaning Services Benefit Knoxville Homes

When Knoxville homeowners requested our assistance with a persistent odor concern, we were happy to respond quickly with tools to help. With processes like air duct cleaning, gathering information is the first step for our responding duct cleaning team and the property owner. The homeowners, in this case, believed that a subtle yet unpleasant odor originated from some point within the system of ducts and vents, and as it turns out, they were correct.

Inspecting the Ducts for Damage

The Before Photo you see shows the findings of our SERVPRO professionals by sending a borescope snake camera through returns and registers within the house. Despite filters on intakes for the system, there are many access points for debris, dander, litter, and even mold spores. Insulating materials can be targets for developing mold colonies, which require dry conditions to overcome.

Once we showed this image to the homeowners, we could show where the restoration and cleaning of the HVAC unit and connected ductwork were necessary. We do not suggest services that you do not need, and that is why visual proof of damage can be beneficial to the customer to see the conditions that are actively altering indoor air quality (IAQ.) The borescope camera used for inspections can produce the high-resolution images you see in both the Before and After Photos here.

How Can Damaged Ducts Get Cleaned in Knoxville Homes

Naturally, the customers wanted to improve their air quality, which began with utilizing high-powered HEPA vacuums affixed to the vents and registers. While this can actively work to prevent a blowout from uncovered registers and returns, we covered surfaces like countertops and furniture to minimize additional cleaning that might be necessary after duct system recovery. Because buildup had started on the walls of the ductwork, as you can see in the Before Photo here, additional cleaning actions were necessary to achieve the intended results.

Powered tools like drills with bristled brushes loosened and removed buildup along these walls of the ducts, and you can see in the After Photo that there is almost no debris or dust along this surface. Because this cleaning occurred along with simultaneous HEPA vacuuming, we could minimize the impact to the rest of the house, and this dislodged debris and dust finding a home elsewhere in the ductwork.

The Results of Thorough Air Duct Cleaning

With imagery like the Before Photo, it is often not challenging to convince Knoxville homeowners that it is time for air duct cleaning. But even more than the satisfying results we could provide to eliminate the lingering odor for these customers, our SERVPRO team expects and plans for varying conditions. When displaying the After Photo to the homeowners, they could see that they were breathing better-quality air and that the elements for persistent odors had been removed. The process is beneficial to indoor air quality and can greatly impact circulating environmental contaminants such as:

  • Mold spores
  • Dust
  • Dander
  • Debris
  • Bacterial and viral pathogens
